Stephanie Pfundt, Soprano

Stephanie Pfundt is a soprano, chamber musician, lyricist, and composer. She has garnered competition recognition with a 1st place win in the 2024 Seattle Opera Guild Competition, numerous prizes in the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, and as a quarterfinalist in the 2023 Elizabeth Connell Prize. Her 2024–25 season included her role debut as Anna in Puccini’s Le Villi with the New Opera Company of Boston, a production she also coproduced.

Highlights of the 2023–24 season with Skyline Opera featured scene performances as Michaëla in Carmen, Cleopatra in Giulio Cesare, Salome in Herodiade, and the title roles in Thaïs and Alcina. Previous operatic credits include Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte, Ma Zegner in Missy Mazzoli’s Proving Up, Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro, Johanna in Sweeney Todd, and the Königin der Nacht in Die Zauberflöte. A devoted chamber musician, Pfundt has performed recitals across the Pacific Northwest with pianist Reid Wolch and presented Lili Boulanger’s Clairières dans le Ciel in Boston with Pierre- Nicolas Colombat.

She has earned prizes in the 2019 and 2023 NATS Artist Award Competitions and was named the 2022 Ted Stevens Young Alaskan Artist, leading to a recital with the Anchorage Festival of Music. She has appeared in masterclasses with Kathleen Kelly, Arlene Shrut, Tamera Wilson, and Warren Jones at the 2023 Source Song Festival. Born into a commercial fishing family in Petersburg, Alaska, Pfundt received degrees from Pacific Lutheran University and Boston University. Her debut song cycle Ocean Airs was praised by Tom Cipullo as “sensitive, personal… a real individual voice.” At the forefront of classical improvisation, she recently premiered WATERWOMAN, an improvised opera with cellist Sebastian Baverstam. Her first chamber opera, The Stikine Method, will be workshopped in Boston in 2026.
